If you were to visit Istanbul, Turkey, you might marvel at all the wonderful architecture and history that infuses the city with culture and heritage. You may also notice the stray cats. Lots of them. The fact is, Istanbul has a big problem with stray cats, which means that most of the time these furry felines are treated with cruelty or killed outright as a means of dealing with the problem.
Fortunately, for the cat's’ sake, there is a much better solution. An Imam named Mustafa Efe has opened the doors of his mosque to these kittens, and they have decided to make it their home.

As an act of kindness and charity, Efe says that these cats are his guests, which means that they are more than welcome to live on the premises and engage with his followers. For one kitty, this was a huge relief.
Recently, a cat mother who had just had kittens realized that Efe’s mosque was the best place for her and her children, and she brought them in, one by one, out of the cold and away from the streets. Now she and her young are happy and healthy, as Efe’s followers feed and care for his guests as much as he does.

For the last year, this mosque has been a haven for stray cats, and we hope that it continues for many years to come.
