If you’ve ever had to get surgery, then you know the feeling of waking up post-op without knowing where you are or what is going on. The experience can be quite discomforting and disorienting for many people, but at least we have the mental capacity to understand why we feel that way.
Unfortunately, that is not the case for animals. When they go under the knife, they have no idea if or when they will wake up again, and once they do, they have no awareness of what is happening. It’s heartbreaking to think about.
Such was the case for a puppy in Baltimore recently. A dog named Meesha was at BARCS Animal Shelter getting spayed. The organization does that to all of their inhabitants to help curb overpopulation in the streets.
Although the procedure is straightforward, that doesn’t make it any easier for the dogs who have no idea why they are waking up in a strange environment, feeling sick and having pain all through their body.
