Here at Devourable, we have seen our fair share of stories involving a momma animal caring for her babies at her own expense. We have seen cats pull their kittens from a burning fire, and we have seen dogs hide their pups to keep them safe. In every instance, the bond between mother and child is stronger than anything, including the health and safety of the mom. It’s inspiring and reminds us that animals are capable of a lot more than we give them credit.
In every case, however, the one doing the protecting is always the mother. While we are not trying to say that males of every species abandon their families, it just tends to work out that way because the animals in question are strays. Nonetheless, we see mothers working hard for their kids, but rarely does the father take part in these stories.
That is until a box of kittens was found abandoned on the side of the road in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Apparently, whoever owned the kitties didn’t want them anymore (or couldn’t take care of them) and placed them all in a plastic tub. A good Samaritan walked by and called it in to the Homeless Animal Adoption League (HAAL), which is a local nonprofit that brings in strays.
