Huge Win For Animals: India Bans The Import Of Skins And Furs

As of January third, India banned the import of exotic skins from reptiles like alligators and crocodiles and more cuddly animals like fox, mink and chinchillas when the Director General of Foreign Trade (under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry) issued the notification.

The NGO Humane Society International (HSI) claims that the factory farms tasked with raising and slaughtering the animals are designed to maximize profits, at the expense of the animals.

According to HSI, alligators and crocodiles are dumped into concrete pits for months or years before being skinned. Many times they are skinned before death is accomplished.
