It seems that our cultural acceptance of animal captivity for the sake of family entertainment is coming to an end.
On the heels of Sea World ending their Orca performances and Trip Advisor removing thousands of animal attractions from its directory, the Greatest Show on Earth will be lowering its final curtain come May.
Falling attendance, climbing operating costs, declining public interest, and lengthy battles with animal rights groups all contributed to the decision to dismantle the show.
"There isn't any one thing," said Kenneth Feld, chairman and CEO of Feld Entertainment. "This has been a very difficult decision for me and for the entire family."
