Kentucky Ranked Worst State For Animal Protection In The U.S.

The Animal Legal Defense Fund released its 11th annual report on Tuesday, ranking all fifty states on their legislative efforts for animal protection.

Illinois topped the list for its stringent animal rights and has maintained its first place status for the ninth consecutive year. In this most recent report, Illinois was followed by Oregon, Maine, California and Rhode Island.

But another state has held its title longer than Illinois and that's Kentucky, who has come in dead last ten years running.

According to Lora Dunn, the senior staff attorney of the Animal Legal Defense Fund’s Criminal Justice Program, the organization looks at 15 distinct categories of animal protection laws in all 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia and U.S. territories.
